With the return of Charles II to the English throne in 1660, music in Britain finally escaped from the drabness and austerity of the Cromwellian period. Influenced by French composers such Jean-Baptiste Lully and Michel Lambert at the court of Louis XIV, English composers embarked upon a new adventure into what would become known as the “Baroque”.

This concert offers a selection of English Restoration and French works by: John Blow, Henry Purcell, Michel Lambert, Jean-Baptiste Lully, Matthew Locke performed by a group of brilliant and up and coming young artists under the direction of Andrew Burn.
